Oakville homeowners currently have two Home Renovation Savings paths that may include attic insulation. One is a standalone attic-insulation offer with no home energy assessment; the other begins with an assessment and requires at least two eligible upgrades. They use different rebate amounts and different project sequences.
Standalone attic-insulation rebate
The official Home Renovation Savings page states that a home energy assessment is not required for this route. It currently lists a maximum of $1,250 when starting insulation is R-12 or less and the upgraded attic reaches at least R-50. The maximum is $1,000 when the starting level is above R-12 through R-25, and $800 when the starting level is above R-25 through R-35.
The program also states that 100% of the total roof-assembly area must be insulated. Work and the application must be completed through a participating contractor from the list supplied after the homeowner confirms eligibility.

Starting work with a contractor outside the required program process can affect eligibility. Confirm first, then follow the route the program gives you.
Assessment-required route for two or more upgrades
The second path starts with an initial assessment by a registered energy advisor from an approved service organization. The report identifies eligible recommendations. The homeowner completes at least two qualifying upgrades, schedules the follow-up assessment with the same advisor and waits for submitted documents to be processed.
The official program currently lists $1,500, $1,200 or $900 for attic insulation that reaches at least R-50, depending on the starting level. It also lists up to $250 for air sealing and separate incentives for wall, exposed-floor and foundation insulation.
Key eligibility concepts
The program says the applicant must own the home. Eligible types include detached and semi-detached houses, row or townhomes other than stacked townhomes, and mobile homes on permanent foundations. Homes occupied for six months or less do not qualify for the standalone attic offer.
Heating and utility conditions also apply. Enbridge natural-gas customers or homes connected to Ontario’s electricity grid and heated primarily by electricity, oil, propane or wood may qualify, subject to the full terms.
A safe planning sequence
- Check the official eligibility tool before any work begins.
- Confirm whether your project uses the standalone or assessed route.
- Use the contractor or service-organization list supplied by the program when required.
- Have the attic condition documented, including starting insulation.
- Keep invoices, photographs and program documents.
Program amounts and rules can change. Review the official standalone attic page and the assessment-required program page immediately before planning the work.
How the rebate decision relates to the attic decision
Eligibility does not mean every attic only needs more insulation. Active leaks, significant moisture, disconnected exhausts, unsafe wiring, suspected hazardous material or contamination can require other work first. A rebate target should not be used to bury an unresolved condition.
