Two different insulation routes
Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings program currently shows a standalone attic-insulation route that does not require a home energy assessment, and an assessed route for homeowners completing two or more qualifying upgrades. The amounts and process are different.
No assessment required
Standalone attic insulation
The official program lists rebates based on starting insulation and the minimum level reached.

The program states that 100% of the total roof-assembly area must be insulated and that a participating contractor must complete the work and application.
Assessment required
Two or more upgrades
This route begins with an initial home energy assessment by a registered energy advisor from an approved service organization. Homeowners choose at least two eligible upgrades, complete a follow-up assessment and receive rebates after documentation is submitted.
The official program currently lists attic-insulation incentives of $1,500, $1,200 or $900 for reaching at least R-50, depending on the starting level. It also lists up to $250 for air sealing and separate amounts for eligible wall, exposed-floor and foundation work.

Protect rebate eligibility with the right sequence
- Use the official eligibility tool for the route you are considering.
- Do not begin work until the program confirms the required next step.
- For the standalone route, select from the participating-contractor list supplied by the program.
- For the assessed route, complete the initial assessment before eligible upgrades.
- Keep invoices, photographs and all program documents.
Who the standalone attic route says may qualify
The program says applicants must own the home. Eligible housing includes detached and semi-detached homes, row or townhomes other than stacked townhomes, and mobile homes on a permanent foundation. New homes occupied six months or less do not qualify.
Heating and utility eligibility also matters: Enbridge natural-gas customers or homes connected to Ontario’s electricity grid and heated primarily by electricity, oil, propane or wood may qualify, subject to program terms.
